Puppy Training Day

Wednesday November 6th will be Puppy Training Day at  our popular day care and grooming services - Day Care & Paw Spa Services,  offered by our Veterinary Assistance program. These services have been available since August 26th 2019. Please see the attached flyer for a list of the services and pricing. To make your pet’s reservation, please contact Alicia Newcomb in Freedom room 109, 813-558-1185 ext. 283 or email alicia.newcomb@sdhc.k12.fl.us.


Florida PTA Scholarships

Florida PTA is pleased to offer a total of eight (8) scholarships, a minimum of one each in the following categories: University, Fine Arts, Community College, and Vo-Tech, to students graduating in the 2019-2020 school year.  This is a one time (non-renewable) award of $2000.00 and will be awarded to worthy students interested in getting a start in life through higher education. 
Requirements for each student to apply for this scholarship include:
  • Graduate from a Florida High School in the 2019-2020 school year
  • Be a member of their high school’s PTA/PTSA or the Sunshine State PTSA (PTA/PTSA must be in good standing)
  • Planning to continue their education in the 2020-2021 school year at a University, Fine Arts, Community or Vo-Tech College
  • Fully complete the online application and submit letters of recommendation, essay, transcripts, ACT and/or SAT scores and PTA/PTSA membership card online as required
Additional factors will be taken into consideration in selecting winners (e.g. need, special circumstances, extracurricular activities, honors, etc.). Please encourage Students with Disabilities (SWD) or Learning Disabilities (SLD) to apply as consideration will be given for at least one scholarship.
Deadline for all applications is February 1, 2020.

The Freedom PTSA encourages all students to seek a higher education upon graduation from high school and will award up to four $500 scholarships to qualifying seniors. Note that these are different from the Florida PTA scholarships mentioned above. All applicants must be student members of the Freedom PTSA by November 1st 2019! They must be a 2020 graduating Freedom H.S. Senior and must have been accepted to a college, university or a technical/ vocational school. They must be in good standing with the FHS Student Affairs office and have an unweighted G.P.A of at least 2.5.  In order to be considered, please complete the application form, an essay ( 250 - 500 word max) and provide two recommendation letters. Applications are found in the Guidance Department. For any questions please email the FHS PTSA Scholarships Chair: Deepali.damle@gmail.com

Senior Parents
Are you interested in purchasing a senior tribute for your child in the 2019-2020 yearbook? A senior tribute honors your student and the accomplishment of graduating from high school. Tributes start at only $95. If interested, contact Dan Sidwell by email at dan.sidwell@sdhc.k12.fl.us or by phone at 813-558-1185 x 251. If your child has not taken their senior portratit; you can sign up at www.cady.com/book to make an appointment at the studio. Failute to do so will result in your child's photo not being featured in the yearbook. Additionally, a depost for the senior package is due by the begiining of October (October 4th) in order to qualify for the lowered individual costs of the major events and items during a senior year. Payments may be made through mypaymentsplus.com or stop by room 528 to pick up a paper form or pay with cash or money order. Note: Although the events and items may be sold at a later date as well, students will have a higher cost and hte spots/items may run out.

Commemorative Bricks: 
“Graduating seniors, ROTC, musical theater, and all students CEMENT your time at FHS with a Commemorative Brick. You can place your name, Year of graduation, inspirational quote, or a logo depicting your love of sports, music, or reading in addition to many more.  These bricks can be purchased through the FHS PTSA. Forms are available in the main office at the Forms Kiosk.  You can also email Mrs. Kelley at pskrmd@gmail.com. Order deadline for this year is May 13th, 2019.”  

Patriot of the Month: 
Congratulations to September Patriot of the Month Mrs. Cheryl Bernales from the World Languages Department. Mrs. Bernales is an awesome department head and very supportive!  She is always willing to help other teachers who ask for assistance and provide support as needed.  She has a positive attitude and a continuous dedication to supporting our teachers and students in the World Languages Department and school in general.  She goes above and beyond in all she does; always remaining positive throughout everything!  She possesses an incredible dedication to our school and our students. Thank you, Mrs. Bernales, for all that you do! Mrs. Bernales chose to have Panera Bagels and coffee for the team while receiving her certificate last week.

General Assembly Meeting~
The first of three PTSA General assembly meetings was held on August 21st 2019 in the Principal's Conference Room. Thank you for all those who attended. A summary of the various PTSA programs was provided. The treasurer's report was provided. We currently have 143 members. Additional details are in the attached meeting minutes.

Commemorative Brick Fundraiser
Commemorative Brick FundraiserSupport FHS and our PTSA by purchasing a personalized brick paver to be installed in the Flagpole Brick Garden between Liberty and Freedom campuses. Design a brick for your student, family or business; pay tribute to a FHS Team, Club, special Teacher or Coach and CEMENT a place in FHS History! Hurricane Dorian Make Up Time
In order to make up for the school time lost during Hurricane Dorian, the following Mondays will now become full school days: September 16, September 23, September 30, October 7. Students WILL NOT be released early on those four days.

2019-2020 Reflections Contest Deadline Extend to October 31st 2019:
The PTSA is now accepting entries for the National PTA Reflections contest. The National PTA Reflections art program engages students by inspiring them to reflect on a specific theme and create original artwork based on that theme. This year’s theme “Look Within” will spark creativity in all students. Tell your story through dance, a short film, a poem or story, an original song, a photo or visual work of art. Pick up a PTA Reflections Entry Form today from the office or use the one attached to this email. Please see the attached student packet for additional information for each category. Please submit your entry to the PTSA: reflections.fhsptsa@gmail.com or Deepali.damle@gmail.com by October 31st 2019.

Join the FHS PTSA!
A common complaint of parents with high schoolers is that they feel as if they don't know what's going on at their child's school. Become a member of Freedom's PTSA for only $10 (or 4 for $30), receive these weekly updates and BE IN THE KNOW. Forward this to another Freedom parent and encourage them to join us. It takes a village!

Patriot Shop
What's in style? Being a Freedom Patriot!!!! Did you know that Freedom is one of the only schools with an actual school spirit store on campus?? Have your student stop by the Patriot Shop to get your Freedom gear Fridays at both lunches. Checkout our newly designed sweatshirts, long sleeve and short sleeve t-shirts, visors, lanyards, car magnets and more. Items range in price from $5 to $25. We take cash, check, debit and credit cards. The Patriot Shop is located near the outdoor cafeteria patio in Room 103c. See ya Fridays during lunch!!! It's just cool to be a Patriot!!!

This is a great way to support the PTSA and show school spirit! Parents are welcome to volunteer at the Patriot Shop on Fridays 10 am to noon. Please contact Jeannine Armington at: jbeannie@tampabay.rr.com to be added to the sign up invite.
